Daniel Law Announces Six New Partners

In late September, top-tier intellectual property law firm Daniel Law announced six new partners - Fernanda Torres Vieira (Trademarks), Cecília Tavares Delgado de Moura (Trademarks) Gustavo Sartori Guimarães (Patents), Thamilla Talarico (Privacy and Data Protection), Nuria López (Privacy and Data Protection) and Renato Malafaia (Privacy and Data Protection) – in a move which significantly strengthens several of the firm's key departments.

 

The New Partners

 

An intellectual property and entertainment law expert with substantial experience in both fields, Fernanda Torres Vieira holds an LL.M. from The George Washington University Law School and a postgraduate degree from Pontifícia Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), both focused on intellectual property. She has previously worked at major Brazilian law firms such as Ulhôa Canto, Rezende e Guerra Advogados, Murta Goyanes and Bhering Advogados, as well as at the largest media group in Brazil, Globo Comunicações e Participações. Now, as a new partner, she will join Daniel Law’ trademarks team. 

 

Cecília Tavares Delgado has over 16 years of experience in the legal market and has been working at Daniel Law since 2004. In 2016, she became the coordinator of the trademarks department, which she now will captain as partner. Academically, Ms. Delgado holds an MBA in intellectual property, law and ethics from Universidade Cândido Mendes (UCAM), an MBA in leadership, innovation and management from Pontifícia Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), as well as a postgraduate degree in legal technology from Pontifícia Católica de Minas Gerais (PUC-Minas).

 

Gustavo Sartori Guimarães has over 16 years of experience in the patents market, having previously worked as a patent engineer at leading IP firms such as Dannemann, Siemsen, Bigler & Ipanema Moreira, Veirano Advogados, Gusmão & Labrunie as well as the biggest mining company in Brazil, Vale. Academically, he holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Instituto Mauá de Tecnologia (IMT) and a Bachelor of Laws from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie, as well as a Master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Universidade de Taubaté. As a new partner, Mr. Sartori will now lead the mechanics team at Daniel Law.  

 

With an impressive academic background, Thamilla Talarico holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Master’s degree in philosophy of language from Pontifícia Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio). She also undertook several specialization courses, in law and new technologies at PUC-Rio, in blockchain technologies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and in executive education and digital law at Insper. Ms. Talarico has previously worked at well-known law firms, such as Lobo & Ibeas Advogados and BSBC – Borba, Simões Barbosa, Bessone, Cristofaro Advogados. Along with being a professor at Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV-Rio) and a member of the Data Protection and Privacy Commission at the Rio de Janeiro Chapter of the Brazilian Bar Association, she will now lead the technology, privacy and data protection department at Daniel Law as a partner. 

 

New technology partner, Nuria López, has over ten years of experience in the legal market. She is a visiting professor at Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV-Rio), Universidade Prebisteriana Mackenzie and Digital House Brasil and has previously worked at front-running law firm Opice Blum, Bruno, Abrusio e Vainzof Advogados Associados. Academically, she holds a Bachelor of Laws, a Master’s and a Doctorate degree in philosophy of law from Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC-SP). 

 

Renato Malafaia is Daniel Law’s new digital law, privacy and data protection partner. With nine years of experience, he has previously worked at prominent law firms such as Lacaz Martins, Peireira Neto, Gurevich & Schoueri Advogados, Gusmão & Labrunie and Opice Blum, Bruno, Abrusio e Vainzof Advogados Associados. Academically, Mr. Malafaia holds a Bachelor of Laws from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie and a postgraduate degree in law and information technology from Escola Politécnica - USP.
