Colombian law firm Gómez-Pinzón has announced the promotion of two partners, María Isabel Romero and Alejandro Sanabria, in the corporate/M&A and tax practices respectively.

The new appointments bring the firm’s partner count to 22.

"We are proud of the promotion of new partners,” said Mauricio Piñeros, managing partner of Gómez-Pinzón. “María Isabel and Alejandro are individuals with outstanding personal and professional qualities, and will surely play a great role as part of the firm's management team.  2024 is a year of many challenges, and together with them we will do even better for our clients," he added.

With more than 18 years of experience in corporate law, María Isabel Romero has played a prominent role both in law firms and in the public and private sectors. After a notable trajectory as a Judge of the Republic in corporate matters, she has oriented her focus towards corporate litigation and has experience in crisis management and insolvency proceedings.

To date, she has played a key role in contractual and corporate matters arising from the firm's mergers and acquisitions and capital markets transactions, and she also leads the team that advises leading companies such as Primax Colombia, COFCO International and Efectivo and Servientrega, among others, the firm said.

"I welcome with enthusiasm the challenge of being a partner in GP's corporate practice, where we will lead projects that consolidate Gómez-Pinzón's position in the Colombian legal and corporate market,” María Isabel said with respect to her partnership appointment. “Among my main goals for this year is to contribute to the strengthening of a robust business environment, highlighting the excellent practices that characterize the firm."

For his part, new partner Alejandro Sanabria has more than 15 years of experience. A specialist in international taxation and corporate finance advisory, from a tax perspective, he is an expert in the structuring of financial instruments (equity, debt, derivatives and hybrids), investment funds and international tax advice in mergers and acquisitions, real estate, private equity and project finance.

Alejandro is an integral part of the firm’s advisory team for international banks, including JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, Bank of America, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, Scotiabank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Barclays, HSBC, Citigroup, among others.

"Colombia is going through times of important economic challenges that, in turn, imply great opportunities to contribute and positively impact the country. In this context, being a partner of GP means being an ally of our clients in the planning and implementation of fiscally responsible initiatives that mitigate the effects of changing regulations and optimize the productivity and growth of the national economy," Alejandro said.

“With this appointment, Gómez-Pinzón reaffirms its commitment to excellence in the Colombian legal and business landscape and strengthens its team with highly qualified professionals to face challenges and take advantage of the opportunities presented by the dynamic environment of the country,” the firm said in a statement.
