Stibbe Reinforces EU Competition Practice With Lateral Hire in Brussels
EU law, competition and regulated markets expert Sophie van Besien joins Stibbe as a partner in Brussels. She comes from Belgian postal service, bpost, where she was director of regulatory and competition.
Van Besien covers the full spectrum of merger control, cartel investigations and state aid issues with particular expertise in heavily regulated sectors such as fintech, pharmaceuticals and telecoms.
“I’m delighted to join a tier-one firm as Stibbe and become part of its reputable Benelux EU competition team,” she commented. “I look forward to expanding the practice and to working with colleagues to assist our clients in overcoming the challenges of competition law and to help them deal with the regulatory tsunami they are facing across various sectors.”
Wouter Ghijsels, Managing Partner of Stibbe in Brussels added: “We are excited to have Sophie on board at Stibbe. Sophie is an outstanding next-generation lawyer who will bring a wealth of in-house experience in a highly regulated environment to the benefit of our clients.”
Following the recent addition of patent expert Philippe Campolini in Brussels in September, this lateral hire further bolstered Stibbe’s offering in the pharmaceutical and life sciences space.
