In January, renowned full-service Brazilian law firm Souto Correa Advogados announced the promotion of two associates to partners - Raquel Stein and Fernando Pellenz - in a move that bolsters the firm’s Contracts, Corporate and Agribusiness teams.
With extensive experience on implementing international projects, Raquel Stein joined the firm in 2018 as the coordinator of its Latin Desk, bringing her experience on contracts and issues related to distribution, franchise, and commercial representation of Brazilian companies abroad, as well as foreign companies in Brazil. She has over 12 years of experience in the legal market, having previously worked for distinguished Brazilian law firms such as Andrade Maia Advogados and CMT – Carvalho, Machado e Timm Advogados.
Academically, Ms. Stein holds a Bachelor of Laws from Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUC-RS), a postgraduate degree in Civil Procedural Law from ABDPC and a Master’s in Private Law and the Arbitrability of Corporate Disputes from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRS). Additionally, she is currently the director of Women in Law Mentoring Brazil (WLM), an initiative that promotes the professional development of women in the legal world, as well as co-founded the Diversity Committee of Souto Correa Advogados.
Fernando Pellenz, respectively, is the coordinator of the São Paulo-based Agribusiness practice of Souto Correa, where he started in 2014. He holds vast expertise on strategic litigation matters and in the structuring of private credit transactions to foster the agribusiness chain, as well as in trading companies, agro-industrial cooperatives, and commodities distribution issues.
Academically, Mr. Pellenz holds a Bachelor of Laws from Instituto Cenecista de Ensino Superior de Santo Ângelo (ICESSA), an LL.M. in Business Law from Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (UVRS) and a Master’s degree in Agribusiness from UFRS. Additionally, he has also undertook a Leadership and Management program from University of Missouri (USA).
About the promotions, Carlos Souto, the CEO of Souto Correa Advogados, stated that 2020 was a challenging year, but brought important lessons - "Among them, I highlight the importance of people and culture.
