Chilean law firm Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría (PPU) has appointed Jorge Vial, a renowned litigation lawyer, as a partner, and who will lead the firm’s dispute resolution practice.
Vial, who co-founded Vial Larraín Abogados, will join the PPU team along with his associates Isidora Gutiérrez, Juan Manuel Lavín, Carlos San Martín, Rafael Carmona and Josefa Larraín, bringing the dispute resolution team to 20, all of whom are specialists in local and international litigation and arbitration.
He is a law graduate of the Universidad Católica, a professor of procedural law at the same university, and holds an LLM from the University of Michigan.
He has ample experience in disputes in the mining, energy and hydro projects industries, among others, and as a barrister before the supreme court, courts of appeals throughout the country and ordinary civil courts, as well as being a recognized expert in local and international arbitration.
He has provided legal advice in complex and significant arbitrations and disputes for companies such as SQM, Dow Chemical, Domino’s Pizza International, EIG Global Energy Partners, Jacobs, Aegion Corporation, Nueva Pudahuel, and ABCDIN, among others.
He has also successfully led litigation on behalf of Canadian mining company Yamana Gold, Grupo Empresas Transoceánica, as well as for Universidad Santo Tomás, Briggs-Fanaloza Group, and Singapore’s Sembcorp Industries.
