Debra Cafaro rode to the rescue of Ventas in 1999 at a time when it was at the edge of the financial precipice. After undertaking a complete overhaul of the business over a three year period, Ventas embarked on a program of growth and diversification. In 2003 she was appointed chairperson. The company then carried out a series of major acquisitions, principally in the United States and the United Kingdom. She is on the executive committees of Real Estate Roundtable and the Economic Club of Chicago.    


Notable success: In 2010 and 2011 Ventas made 11 billion dollars’ worth of acquisitions, doubling the size of the company in less than 24 months.
