Firm appoints Shilpa Bhandarkar to head its innovation and efficiency efforts.
Linklaters has announced the appointment of Shilpa Bhandarkar as its head of innovation, a newly created position which will supervise the UK firm’s drive to champion innovation among its partners and business teams.
Her role includes taking charge of the firm’s innovation and efficiency group, which was established last year to collect, evaluate and develop ideas from employees across the firm, covering areas such as legal innovation, smart contracts, fintech and advanced matter delivery.
The news marks a return to the Magic Circle powerhouse for Bhandarkar, whose varied roles across the firm include three years as an associate, six years as its chief operating officer for India and nine months as a business manager covering the African region. Since departing the firm, she founded and sold a mobile app company and worked in the legal technology space.
Commenting on her new role, she said: “Linklaters has always embraced new ideas and technologies that enable it to provide a best in class service to its clients and a fulfilling work environment for its people. This is reflected in collaborations with clients such as ISDA, as well as internal collaborations borne through our ideas pathway. As a people business, innovation, however defined, must ultimately result in a better experience for both our clients and our people. I’m looking forward to working with our practice innovation teams to develop a truly entrepreneurial mindset across the firm to ensure our best ideas are captured, developed and scaled.”
The news was also welcomed by Paul Lewis, a partner in the firm’s finance practice, who added: “Innovation is not just about adopting technology enabled products, it is also about changing the way we work with clients, how we manage our people and how we organize ourselves. It is central to the future of our business and Shilpa will help to both crystallize and deliver on our vision.”
