In early November, renowned insolvency and bankruptcy attorneys Eduardo Mattar and Paulo Padis announced the launch of their new São Paulo-based law firm, Padis Mattar Advogados.
The newly-launched firm already counts on 25 lawyers and will focus its practice on advising foreign companies and investors on major corporate restructurings, drawing on the extensive experience of its founding partners. With outstanding track records, both Mr. Padis and Mr. Mattar have frequently assisted creditors and investors in some the country’s largest judicial restructurings, such as the Avianca, Samarco, Schahin, Odebrecht, Queiroz Galvão cases, amongst others.
Mr. Mattar brings over 23 years of experience in the legal market to his new practice, having previously worked at full-service giant TozziniFreire Advogados and prestigious firm Pinheiro Guimarães Advogados. Recently, his name made headlines for his work advising North American investment fund Elliot, Avianca's largest creditor. Mr. Mattar’s team of 14 lawyers follows him at new firm.
Mr. Padis has been leading his own practice, Padis Advogados, since 2018. In 2001, he joined distinguished full-service firm Cescon, Barrieu, Flesch & Barreto Advogados where spent over a decade and later, co-founded Stocche Forbes Advogados in 2012, before setting up his own firm. Academically, Mr. Padis holds a Bachelor of Laws from Universidade de São Paulo and an LL.M. from London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
