Caroline holds a Master’s degree in Bio-Engineering Sciences and also obtained a PhD in Applied Biological Sciences, both at the University of Ghent. After finishing her PhD, Caroline started as a Patent Adviser at De Clercq & Partners and qualified as a European Patent Attorney in 2008.  In 2011 Caroline became head of the IP Department of CropDesign. At CropDesign and BASF Plant Science, Caroline particularly specialized in all IP aspects of a global R&D project aiming to develop and commercialize transgenic rice showing yield increase.

Besides large organizations such as multinationals, universities and research institutions, De Clercq & Partners also serves start-ups, venture capitalists, small and innovative companies whose main source of initial finance is capital on private investment. The firm, with offices in Sint-Martens-Latem, Leuven and Kortrijk and can count more than 35 IP professional within its team.
