Chile's Alessandri Adds Three Partners

Alessandri Abogados has added former Gorziglia Morales Cox Abogados partners Franco Gorziglia, Francisco Javier Morales and José Joaquín Cox as partners, strengthening its tax offering.

Alessandri Abogados has added former Gorziglia Morales Cox Abogados partners Franco Gorziglia, Francisco Javier Morales and José Joaquín Cox as partners, strengthening its tax offering.

Gorziglia specializes in tax law with broad experience in business reorganization, tax optimization and tax compliance to the Chilean Internal Revenue Service (SII) and Courts of Justice for persons, as well as national and foreign companies. He has been involved in several tax law bills and public policy projects, and provides ongoing advice to non-profit entities on donations and their tax regulation.

Before joining the firm, Gorziglia was a founding partner of Gorziglia Morales Cox Abogados law firm, and he began his professional career at the Central Bank of Chile before working at Portaluppi Guzmán and Bezanilla, and at law firm Arteaga Gorziglia.

“We are delighted to participate and carry out as a team a transformation of the legal and tax services according to the times, which involves a much more dynamic and participative advice, hand-in-hand with clients, focused on the integral solution of their problems,” Franco Gorziglia said.

He said the strengthening of the firm’s tax practice is particularly important as Chile implements a tax modernization law, as well as a series of tax measures to mitigate the effects of the pandemic and to help the reactivation of the economy.

Morales has focused his practice on tax advice and trials of both local and foreign clients, specializing in tax consulting and the defense of the taxpayer before the Internal Revenue Service and the Courts of Justice.

Before joining the firm, Morales was a founding partner of the law firm Gorziglia Morales Cox Abogados, and prior to that was director of the tax practice at law firm Ontier.

“In recent years, due to the constant reforms, the tax area has been transformed into a strategic area for business development, however, it must go hand-in-hand with comprehensive legal advice,” new partner Francisco Javier Morales.

Cox has extensive experience in tax and corporate counseling for local and foreign clients, related to the establishment and development of their businesses both in Chile and abroad, focusing on real estate projects, land tax and tax efficiency and optimization.

Prior to joining Alessandri, Cox was a founding partner of Gorziglia Morales Cox Abogados, and prior to that director of the corporate area of Ontier Chile, where he advised local and foreign clients on commercial, tax and corporate issues.

“Alessandri’s goal is to offer up-to-date, cutting-edge advice with a closeness to the client that the firm’s clients both demand and appreciate,” José Joaquín Cox said.

“The complexity and changes in tax regulations have meant that in practice companies have had to invest a lot of time to keep up to date and in compliance,” Arturo Alessandri, the firm’s executive director, said.

“The practice of tax law requires a highly specialized knowledge base, which is not usually found in other practice areas. The arrival of our new partners enhances supplementary and cross-cutting areas of Alessandri’s practice, in a synergy with litigation, mergers and acquisitions, technology and intellectual property, capital markets, foreign investment and labor, among others,” he added
