Dr. Nils Koffka has moved to the Hamburg office of Allen & Overy to take over the management of the German private equity practice. The 55-year-old has spent his entire professional career at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, and been a partner there since 1997.
For Allen & Overy, Koffka's recruitment is another coup. At the end of 2017, the Munich office announced the arrival of Dominik Stühler from DLA Piper. Koffka, who is regarded as a strong acquisition partner, is the first entry at partner level for Allen & Overy since Dr. Michael Bernhardt joined from Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy in autumn 2016.
For Freshfields, Koffka's departure can also be seen as part of a generational change in the German partnership. Koffka's move marks the end of a long and successful path for the firm. However, the private equity practice at Freshfields, with its strong partnerships and high-caliber clients, continues to be one of the leading names in the market.
With Koffka gone, Freshfields private equity team now has eight partners in Germany and another partner in Vienna.
