Shakespeares and SGH Martineau confirm merger

The merger is confirmed less than three months after the two firms announced in talks
Midlands’ law firms Shakespeares and SGH Martineau have confirmed on last Friday that they will complete their merger on June 15th.

Named Shakespeare Martineau, the new firm will have a legal force of around 900 people including 150 partners and a targeting turnover of around £75 million. It will have offices in Birmingham, Leicester, London, Milton Keynes, Nottingham, Solihull, Sheffield, Brussels, and aptly Stratford-upon-Avon.

Andy Raynor, Shakespeares chief executive, will be in charge of the new business. He said, ‘Shakespeare Martineau will have a strong commercial personality and the merger demonstrates the commitment of both firms to grow and keep ahead of a rapidly changing and vibrant marketplace.’

Emma Shipp, managing partner at SGH Martineau, commented, “I am confident that by joining forces we will have an exciting business in which all of our people can develop and thrive.”

Shakespeares is already one of the biggest law firms of region. In 2012, Shakespeares merged with Harvey Ingram, which based in Leicester. In 2013, it acquired another Leicester practice, Marrons, as well as Newsome Vaughan, while obtaining an alternative business license to gain more insurance clients.
