Mexico’s Pérez Correa González appoints two new partners

The two appointments are aligned with the firm's strategy of focusing on the current needs of the market and its clients, to promote social responsibility and arrange business in which the firm can participate giving legal certainty to investments, the firm said in a statement.

In addition, Margáin’s integration as a partner obeys the firm’s development plan for the IP practice, whose growth will be strategic for the firm.

Ulises Moreno has more than 25 years of experience, having held various positions in the federal government, including legal director of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS); internal comptroller at the Tax Administration Service (SAT), and deputy general legal and fiduciary director at Financiera Rural, among other positions.

"I consider my joining Pérez Correa González to be the highest distinction of my professional career. It is a privilege to lead the social responsibility practice in order to, on behalf of the firm, generate a positive impact on society, as well as actively participate with diverse clients in the generation of new business," Moreno said.

Moreno holds a law degree from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana and a philosophy degree from the Universidad Panamericana, a master's degree in law with a specialization in public law from the Universidad Anáhuac, and he is a candidate for a doctorate in law from the Universidad Panamericana.

For his part, Miguel Ángel Margáin said: "Intellectual property rights are the currency of exchange in the knowledge society and economy. "It is necessary to advise clients regarding their protection, defense and exploitation, as IP is their most important and economically valuable asset”.

Margáin has 30 years of experience in intellectual property and innovation protection and exploitation issues at national and international level. He served as chairman of the APEC expert group on intellectual property rights, chaired the WIPO Madrid assembly and participated in the negotiation rounds of the Mexico-US-Canada free trade agreement (USMCA).

In addition, he has held the position of president of the Mexican Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AMPPI), and vice president and spokesperson of the Intellectual Property Rights Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce of Mexico (AmCham).

In January 2013, he was appointed as general director of the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), a position he held until November 2018.
