Mexican law firm Galicia has announced the incorporation of Eduardo Michán as a partner in the firm’s tax practice.

Prior to joining Galicia, Eduardo worked as a foreign associate at Patteson, Belknap, Webb & Tyler in New York, and prior to that was vice president of new product development at Merrill Lynch.

He has also held the position of partner in the tax area of one of the big four law firms in Mexico.

After obtaining a law degree, he studied a postgraduate degree in tax law at the Escuela Libre de Derecho, and a diploma in international tax law from the joint program of Duke University and Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM).

He also holds a diploma in finance from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) and an LLM in international business law from King´s College, London where he studied with a scholarship from Mexico’s science and technology council CONACYT.

“His extensive experience has allowed him to advise commercial and investment banks, private equity funds, pension funds, multinational companies and to participate as a key player in complex M&A and real estate transactions, and multi-jurisdictional financings,” the firm said.

“We are confident that the incorporation of Eduardo to our team, as well as his experience in the local and international legal markets, will be reflected in the benefit to our clients and the firm,” it added.

Galicia’s tax team includes highly regarded expert tax lawyers in consultancy, controversy, litigation and wealth management.

“We are convinced that the way of resolving tax disputes has changed,” the firm said. “Currently, compliance requirements have increased, and we have focused on helping and accompanying our clients in their proceedings, and complying fully with their obligations.”
