Marcegaglia has completed a €450 million contract with the Danieli Group for the construction of a new steel production and flat products rolling mill in Fos-sur-Mer, France. Once operational, the advanced facility is projected to achieve an annual production capacity of over 2 million tonnes of liquid steel and up to 3 million tonnes of hot-rolled carbon and stainless steel coils.
The new plant is designed for a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, targeting up to 80% compared to traditional steelmaking methods. This will be achieved through the utilisation of scrap metal, low-carbon Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI), and the exclusive use of nuclear and renewable energy sources. This project, named Mistral Project, represents a total investment of approximately €1 billion and is the largest in Marcegaglia’s history, underscoring its commitment to upstream integration, supply chain stabilisation, value-added expansion, and decarbonisation.
LCA Studio Legale assisted Marcegaglia in the finalisation of the contract. The firm’s team was coordinated by counsel Paolo Tagliaferri Gentileschi and included mid-level associates Matteo Di Lernia and Duilia Vitale. The legal team worked in close collaboration with Elisa Scilhanick, general counsel for the Marcegaglia Group.
The Danieli Group was represented by its internal legal counsel, Francesco Macorig.
