Kroll, an independent provider of global financial and risk advisory solutions, has acquired ABC economics, a Berlin-based economic and competition consultancy. The transaction strengthens Kroll's economic advisory capabilities as demand continues to grow for specialised expertise in competition, regulatory matters and complex litigation.
The acquisition enhances Kroll's existing practice in competition matters and cartel damages claims while expanding its ability to advise clients across multiple jurisdictions. ABC economics has built a strong reputation advising on competition law matters, including damages quantification, merger control, abuse of dominance, market definition, cartels, vertical agreements, State aid, intellectual property disputes, commercial litigation and international arbitration, as well as regulatory issues in sectors such as telecommunications and energy.
Founded by economist Frank Maier-Rigaud, ABC economics is recognised for its academically driven approach to competition and regulatory economics. The firm advises leading law firms, corporations and financial institutions across Europe and internationally.
The transaction reflects increasing market demand for specialised economic analysis alongside traditional financial and accounting expertise. As courts, competition authorities, regulators and arbitral tribunals place greater emphasis on robust economic evidence, businesses are increasingly seeking multidisciplinary advisory services to navigate complex disputes and regulatory scrutiny.
Commenting on the acquisition, David Jiménez-Ayala, Managing Director and Head of Commercial Disputes for Latin America, Spain and Portugal at Kroll, said: "This acquisition represents a highly significant strategic step for Kroll and a clear demonstration of its commitment to international expansion. Combined with Kroll's already strong presence in Spain's leading competition and cartel damages matters, the addition of ABC economics will further strengthen the firm's capabilities, global reach and ability to support clients across multiple jurisdictions. It is extremely rewarding to see this milestone achieved, and I am confident it will create significant opportunities for growth and success in the years ahead."
Michael H. Dolan, Head of Financial Advisory at Kroll, added: "Kroll is the leading authority at the intersection of valuation, risk and transactions. Economic analysis now plays a central role in the most complex litigation, arbitration and regulatory matters. ABC economics brings exceptional intellectual depth, independence and credibility. Together, we significantly strengthen our ability to help clients navigate high-stakes matters where economics is critical."
Frank Maier-Rigaud, founder of ABC economics, commented: "ABC economics was built around a clear philosophy: rigorous economic analysis, scientific expertise, intellectual honesty and a focus on substance over form. Joining Kroll allows us to take that approach even further by becoming part of a global advisory platform that values technical excellence and deep industry knowledge while enabling us to address a broader range of economic issues where we can make a meaningful impact."
Michael Weaver, Managing Director and Head of International Valuation Advisory Services at Kroll, noted that the acquisition comes at a time of structural change in legal and regulatory markets, with competition enforcement intensifying globally and litigation and arbitration increasingly relying on sophisticated economic analysis beyond traditional accounting expertise.
