With the new KIO BOG1, located in Bogotá, Colombia, KIO extends into its sixth country, its fifth in the Americas and the first in South America.
The building has 5,000 m2 of construction and two computer rooms with more than 2,000 m2 of space and 6 MW of power for colocation services. The project also has land to build a second data center with similar characteristics, resulting in a potential scalable capacity of up to 12 MW. This data center has a high availability design and construction, certified by the Uptime Institute at TIER III level.
I Squared, a leading independent global infrastructure investment manager focusing on energy, utilities, telecom and transport, acquired Zetta Complex Operation from private equity fund TC Latam and Desarrolladora de Zonas Francas, and the acquisition includes Data Center Zetta, a data center located in the free trade zone of Bogotá of approximately 5,000 square metersof built area.
In addition to the outstanding shares of Zetta Complex Operation, I Squared also acquired 100% of the trust rights of the adjacent property of the Data Center Zetta of an approximated area of 2,340 square meters.
Colombia is a very attractive market due to its size, scale and substantial growth in data and IT consumption, resulting in a deficit of currently installed data center capacity relative to the strong absorption rates expected in the future, according to KIO.
The KIO BOG1 Data Center is located in one of the most interconnected industrial complexes in the country with more than 14 telecommunications operators. KIO BOG1 is currently operational, giving KIO's customers unparalleled time to market in a region with limited supply, while the site's additional capacity and network connectivity provide visibility and access to future growth.
"For KIO it is highly strategic to continue expanding in Latin America and we have chosen Colombia as we are convinced of the economic potential and growing demand for our services in this great country. We are working closely with our investment partners, I Squared Capital, in the execution of our expansion plan," said Santiago Suinaga, CEO of KIO Data Centers.
I Squared was counseled on the deal by DLA Piper Martínez Beltrán, with a team led by partner Felipe Quintero, and who was assisted by Felipe Aristizábal, Daniela Duarte, María Alejandra Cabrera and Juan David Castro.
