DLA Piper has incorporated an energy and ESG team led by Brendan Oviedo in Peru.

Brendan Oviedo joins the firm as a partner in the energy, ESG, and projects practices and joins the firm from Hernández & Cía. He joins with a team of three associates, which strengthens DLA Piper's ability to advise clients on complex investment projects.

The addition particularly reinforces the firm's advisory services on initiatives related to energy transition, infrastructure development, and other strategic projects in highly regulated sectors.

With more than two decades of experience, Brendan Oviedo is widely recognized in matters related to energy, infrastructure, climate change, and project development. His practice covers the structuring, financing, and development of projects, regularly advising banks, developers, and investment funds in Peru and internationally.

Brendan graduated in law from the Universidad de Lima and holds a master’s degree in energy policy and regulation from the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy at the University of Dundee in Scotland, in addition to a law degree from the University of Barcelona.

Throughout his career, he has also been actively involved in the development of climate and energy policy.

He has been president of the Peruvian Renewable Energy Society (SPR), Peru's negotiator at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol, and advisor to Peru's negotiating team under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

"The addition of Brendan and his team significantly strengthens our Energy and Projects practices at a time when Peru and the region are facing significant challenges and opportunities in the energy sector,” said Sergio Barboza, co-managing partner of DLA Piper's Peru office.

“Brendan's extensive experience in the energy sector, combined with his deep knowledge of the Peruvian market, will enable us to continue to provide our clients with the best possible advice and support,” he added.

"The addition of Brendan and his team significantly strengthens our energy and projects practices at a time when Peru and the region are facing significant challenges and opportunities in energy transition and project development. His experience and business acumen will bring great value to our clients in key sectors of the economy."
