Dentons announced a second merger within four months

Less than four months after the announcement of its combination with the Chinese firm Dacheng, Dentons confirmed a second merger on April 8, this time between its US branch and McKenna Long & Aldridge.
Through this merger, McKenna Long will become part of Dentons US, now comprising more than 1,100 lawyers in 21 offices in the country. Jeff Haidet (the chairman of McKenna Long) and Peter Wolfson (the CEO of Dentons US) will co-lead the new entity. Worldwide, Dentons will count 6,600 lawyers in more than 125 locations across 50-plus countries.
Haidet commented in a statement: “Our merger with Dentons is the result of a thoughtful, year-long strategic planning process culminating in a positive path for the future of McKenna Long and our clients.” Indeed, the two firms initially approached each other at the end of 2013, months after the tripartite integration between Fraser Milner Casgrain, Salans and SNR Denton. However, this initial attempt was called off due to lack of enough support from McKenna Long’s equity partners.
This time, partners of both firms have approved the tie-up, although by mutual decision, not all lawyers and professionals will join the combined firm. The merger will be effective later this year, after individuals determine where they will continue their careers.
