Colombia’s Serrano Martínez adds partner to head energy practice

Colombian law firm Serrano Martínez has announced the incorporation of José Plata Puyana as a partner, and who will lead the firm’s energy and gas practice.

The practice advises clients on the regulation of electric energy, natural gas, LPG, and hydrogen markets to optimize energy resources, develop business opportunities, and ensure regulatory compliance, among other services.

José will also strengthen the firm’s antitrust and regulatory department through his strong background in antitrust economics, the firm said.

José is an expert in regulated sectors, antitrust and public services, focusing his work on providing advice to industrial clients, foreign investors and public companies engaged in all aspects of the energy sector.

He has worked within the country’s energy regulatory commission and as an advisor to the country’s trade and industry regulatory bodies, as well an advisor to the Inter-American Development Bank on energy transition issues.

He holds a law degree from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and is licensed to practice law in Colombia and the state of New York.

He also holds a master’s degree in economics from the Barcelona School of Economics, and an LLM from Georgetown University in the US.

Serrano Martínez is a law firm specialized in corporate, competition, labor, intellectual property and tax law, and advises and represents local and foreign clients in several sectors of the economy, including oil and gas, baking, retail, infrastructure, air transport, food and new technologies.
