Chilean law firm Alessandri Abogados has announced the incorporation of renowned specialist Carla Illanes to the firm’s technology, cybersecurity and data protection practice.

Her arrival comes prior to the imminent entry into force of Chile’s new personal data protection law.

She has held the position of head of the legal area of the Digital Government Division of the Ministry of the General Secretariat of the Presidency, where she led key legislative proposals such as Law No. 21,464 amending the law on digital transformation of the state.

She has advised local and multinational companies on the design and implementation of privacy policies, regulatory audits, regulatory compliance, and international data transfer, in addition to actively participating in congressional working groups on AI and cybersecurity.

She is an extraordinary lawyer, with whom we share common practice and vision, focused on understanding our clients’ business models and accompanying them in this new regulatory context”.

Carla joins a team of more than 60 professionals at the firm, which already has eight lawyers specializing in technology, along with Elisa Matta, a promising and talented lawyer with whom she has been working for several years.

Elisa Matta is a lawyer and holds a diploma in personal data protection from the Universidad Católica and specializes in emerging technologies such as biometrics and artificial intelligence, advising companies on the implementation of regulatory compliance strategies, risk management, and the adoption of best practices for information protection and security incident prevention.

Carla Illanes’s experience in digital transformation, interoperability, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence projects, both in the public and private sectors, confirms the position of Alessandri’s Technology team as a leader in the implementation of innovative and sustainable legal solutions, in an environment where data protection is becoming a strategic asset for companies in this new and challenging regulatory landscape, the firm said.
