Boies Schiller Flexner LLP has announced the addition of Gianluca Faella as a partner in the firm’s Rome office. Gianluca will primarily focus on competition and regulatory matters in Italy and the European Union, as well as cross-border antitrust litigation involving the firm’s US and UK practices.
Gianluca has extensive experience advising clients on antitrust, economic regulation, State aid and foreign subsidies, golden power, unfair commercial practices, intellectual property, European Union law, and complex commercial litigation. At BSF, he will handle a broad range of matters, including antitrust investigations and litigation, economic regulation, EU law, and issues related to foreign investments and subsidiaries in Italy and the European Union.
“Gianluca represents an important building block in our international growth strategy,” said Chairman Matthew L. Schwartz. “He has developed experience on major competition matters on both sides of the Atlantic and has acted before Italian and European courts. His arrival further strengthens our service offering within the EU.”
Gianluca has assisted Italian and international clients in high-profile and high-value proceedings before civil and administrative courts, EU courts and arbitral tribunals, many of which have established significant precedents, as well as in administrative proceedings before the European Commission and national antitrust and regulatory authorities. He is admitted to practice before the higher courts and has substantial experience before the Italian Supreme Court (Corte di Cassazione), the Council of State, and the Court of Justice of the European Union.
“Throughout its history, Boies Schiller Flexner has been involved in some of the most important antitrust cases,” Gianluca commented. “BSF represents the right choice for me at this stage of my career, given the strength of its brand, its antitrust practice in the United States, and the opportunity to establish and develop these capabilities in Italy and the European Union. I am enthusiastic about continuing to work in Italian and EU competition law, while strengthening internal relationships within the firm to help clients address competition and regulatory challenges on a global scale.”
Gianluca’s professional activity spans a wide range of highly regulated sectors, including electronic communications, media, postal services, energy, pharmaceuticals, transport, banking, insurance, and food. In addition to litigation, Gianluca provides strategic, business-oriented advice, supporting clients in managing legal risks and defining policy strategies and commercial agreements suitable to sustain growth in heavily regulated markets.
“We are delighted to welcome Gianluca to BSF’s Italian team,” said Luigi Macioce, a partner active in both the Milan and Rome offices. “His experience before Italian and EU courts is an ideal complement to the expertise already present among the firm’s professionals, and we expect his strong antitrust focus to create further opportunities for collaboration with multinational companies in Italy and with colleagues in the United States and the United Kingdom.”
Gianluca is an associate professor of Economic Law at Link Campus University in Rome, where he teaches antitrust, regulation and intellectual property law, and is also an adjunct professor of Law and Economics at Luiss Guido Carli University. He joins BSF from the Rome office of a US law firm with a global footprint.
In addition to Gianluca’s arrival, BSF also announced the addition of Michael Demarco as of counsel in its New York office. Michael Demarco has a well-established network of contacts with multinational companies operating in Italy and will have a specific focus on the Italian market.
