BDO Spain has appointed David Cabaleiro as the new head of its audit division in Spain, succeeding Carlos Sotillos, who previously held the role alongside his position as President and will now focus on overall business management.

Previously, Cabaleiro served as an audit partner at BDO’s Madrid office, where he also led the firm’s technical and methodology area. In his new role, he will focus on strengthening the firm’s growth and maintaining excellence in audit services.

Cabaleiro joined BDO in 2000 and brings over 25 years of experience in auditing and advising national and international groups, particularly in the TMT, services, and industrial sectors.

Between September 2015 and December 2016, he was part of BDO Global’s IFRS Advisory Group in London, where he served as a senior manager. He also leads BDO Spain’s IFRS Desk and is a member of the IFRS Policy Committee, BDO Global’s international working group responsible for overseeing the firm’s IFRS strategy.

The new head of BDO Spain audit division holds a degree in Business Administration and Management from the University of Deusto, as well as a Master’s in Corporate Finance and Investment Banking from the Instituto de Estudios Bursátiles (IEB). Additionally, he is a member of the Spanish Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICJCE), its Technical Committee, and the Official Registry of Auditors (ROAC).

This appointment aligns with BDO Spain’s ongoing growth strategy and its strong commitment to quality. In 2023, the firm reported total revenues of €136.4 million, with 50% coming from the financial division, which includes Audit & Assurance, Financial Advisory, and Management Consulting.

Globally, BDO continues to strengthen its position as a leading professional services firm, achieving revenues of $15 billion (€13.9 billion) in 2024. Audit & Assurance remains a cornerstone of the business, representing 40.8% of total revenue.

Carlos Sotillos, BDO Spain’s President, emphasized the significance of the appointment: “David’s appointment reinforces BDO’s commitment to talent and quality. His extensive experience in the sector will be key to further strengthening our audit division in Spain and delivering services that meet the highest standards of excellence for our clients.”
